OSOGBO — The Osun State Governor and candidate of the Accord Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has been declared winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The result was formally declared in the early hours of Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the election, Professor Lekan Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), following the completion of the collation of results from the state's 30 Local Government Areas.
Adeleke's victory gives him a 66,252-vote margin over Oyebamiji and secures his continuation as governor of the state.
The incumbent won 19 of the 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 LGAs.
The election, which attracted significant political attention across the state, saw a keen contest between the Accord Party and the APC.
Despite the strong challenge from Oyebamiji, Adeleke maintained a clear lead in the final tally after results from all 30 LGAs were collated.
The final figures announced by INEC showed that Adeleke's 511,067 votes represented the highest number recorded by any candidate in the election.
Oyebamiji's 444,815 votes placed him second, while Najeem Salam's 17,180 votes secured third position.
According to the figures announced by INEC, Osun State had 2,339,544 registered voters for the election.
Of that number, 1,010,684 voters were accredited to participate in the poll.
A total of 1,005,800 votes were cast, with 985,079 votes declared valid and 20,721 votes rejected.
