The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7, Victor Olaiya, has pledged the full support of the Nigeria Police Force for the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists' (NAWOJ) Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit 2026, reaffirming the Force's commitment to stronger collaboration with the media in promoting national security.
Olaiya made the pledge during a courtesy visit by the NAWOJ National Executive, led by National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, to the Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja ahead of the summit scheduled for August 5 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
Describing security as a collective responsibility, the AIG commended NAWOJ for initiating the Women in Security Summit, saying the programme would strengthen cooperation among security agencies, government institutions, the media and other stakeholders in addressing Nigeria's security challenges.
"The press is a very vital partner of the Police. Your role in informing the public and promoting peace cannot be overemphasised. We are pleased to identify with this initiative because security is a collective responsibility," he said.
He assured the association that Zone 7 would provide the necessary support to ensure the success of the summit while advising the organisers to formally notify the Inspector-General of Police of all operational requirements for the event.
Olaiya also praised women for their growing contributions to leadership, security, governance and national development, noting that female police officers have continued to distinguish themselves through professionalism and dedication.
Earlier, NAWOJ National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, said the summit is one of the association's flagship initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue on security, strategic communication, gender inclusion and peacebuilding.
She said the event will bring together more than 150 participants, including representatives of security agencies, the armed forces, government institutions, diplomatic missions, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, development partners, academia and the media to discuss practical solutions to Nigeria's evolving security challenges.
