Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
In a statement by the Chief press secretary to the governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan says the appointment followed the recommendation of the University's Governing Council in line with the institution's Act and extant regulations.
The Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, recommended Professor Obamuyi after he emerged first among 15 candidates interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
A distinguished scholar of Banking and Finance, Professor Obamuyi will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
Over the years, Professor Obamuyi has held several key academic and administrative positions. He served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the pioneer substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
His academic accomplishments include being named the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa (2015) by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius. He has also served on accreditation panels of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and as Chairperson and Subject Expert of the Review Panel for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.
The new Vice-Chancellor has presented scholarly papers at conferences across Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India and the United States, reflecting his global academic engagement.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expresses confidence that Professor Obamuyi's vast academic and administrative experience would consolidate the achievements of AAUA and further strengthen the institution's reputation in teaching, research and community service.
The governor urges the new Vice-Chancellor to uphold the university's core values while promoting peace, innovation and collaboration among staff, students and other stakeholders.
He also reaffirmes his administration's commitment to providing the necessary support to enable AAUA maintain its position as one of Nigeria's leading state-owned universities.
