The governorship election in Ekiti State commenced on Saturday amid widespread non-compliance with the police directive restricting movement during the exercise.
In Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Ikere-Ekiti, and several other communities, residents appeared to disregard the restriction order as private vehicles, commercial motorcycles, and non-essential workers were seen moving freely.
It was observed that security deployment was relatively light in many areas, with only a few checkpoints and barricades visible across parts of the state.
Several shops and business premises also remained open for commercial activities despite the movement restriction imposed by the police.
The development has raised concerns over the level of enforcement of security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process
