The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State governorship election, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, has expressed deep appreciation to party supporters and the people of the state for standing by him throughout the electioneering process.
In a heartfelt message titled "A Message of Gratitude, Hope and Commitment to the People of Ekiti State," Oluyede described the campaign as one of the most remarkable political journeys in the state's history, thanking thousands of supporters who believed in his vision for a better and more inclusive Ekiti.
According to him, the support, prayers, sacrifices and resilience shown by party faithful and voters demonstrated that the PDP remains a formidable political force in the state despite the outcome of the election.
He noted that the official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) credited the PDP with 40,543 votes, saying every vote represented citizens who refused to compromise their conscience.
"I owe every one of you a debt of gratitude that words alone cannot express. I am proud of every young person who believed that Ekiti deserves better, every woman whose prayers sustained this movement, and every elderly citizen who patiently stood in line because they believed their vote could shape the future of our state," he said.
Oluyede also reflected on the circumstances surrounding his emergence as the PDP candidate, noting that the campaign was built without the backing of any serving governor, former governor or influential national political figure.
Instead, he said the movement was driven by ordinary Ekiti men and women who remained committed to the ideals of democracy and good governance.
The PDP candidate, however, expressed reservations about the conduct of the June 20 governorship election, alleging that reports received from party polling agents across the state's 16 local government areas indicated that the exercise fell short of the standards of a free, fair and credible election.
He cited allegations of widespread vote buying, voter intimidation, operational challenges involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), delayed accreditation and other irregularities as issues that deserve transparent and impartial scrutiny.
While raising concerns over the electoral process, Oluyede maintained a measured tone, affirming his respect for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation's democratic institutions.
He disclosed that he is currently consulting with the leadership of the PDP and members of his legal team to determine the next line of action regarding the outcome of the election.
According to him, whatever decision is eventually taken will be guided by objectivity, the interest of PDP supporters and the long-term development of Ekiti State.
Reassuring supporters of his continued commitment, Oluyede declared that he would not abandon those who stood with him throughout the campaign.
"I will never abandon you. I will continue to stand with you. I will continue to speak for you. I will continue to defend the interests of Ekiti State," he stated.
He concluded by praying for God's blessings upon the people of Ekiti State and expressed optimism that the collective aspiration for a better state would eventually become a reality.
