The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old driver, Adesola Ogunrotifa, for allegedly stealing his employer's Hyundai saloon car after dropping her off at a church service in Akure.
The suspect was apprehended in Abuja following an intelligence-led operation by detectives from the B-Division, Akure, who also recovered the stolen vehicle intact.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident was reported on July 5, 2026, by Mrs. Remilekun of Oba-Ile, Akure. She told investigators that Ogunrotifa, whom she had employed as her personal driver since July 2025, drove her to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, Akure, for a church service.
However, instead of waiting for her, the driver allegedly abandoned his employer at the church premises and drove off with her Hyundai saloon car, reportedly heading towards Abuja.
DSP Jimoh states that detectives immediately launched an investigation, deploying intelligence and strategic tracking that led them to Abuja, where the suspect was arrested and the stolen vehicle recovered intact.
He adds that the suspect has since been charged to court for prosecution in accordance with the law.
The statement notes that the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the professionalism, dedication and intelligence-driven efforts of the investigating team, which led to the successful arrest of the suspect and recovery of the vehicle.
The Police Commissioner also reiterated the Command's commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within or outside Ondo State, assuring residents that every genuine complaint will receive prompt and professional attention.
DSP Jimoh further quoted the Commissioner as urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, stressing that the Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property while bringing offenders to justice.
