The Federal Government has provided livestock support to farmers in Kano State as part of efforts to increase meat production, improve household income and strengthen the livestock value chain.

The intervention brought together farmers and stakeholders across animal feed, veterinary services, trading and processing.

Stakeholders, including the National Sheep and Goat Development Association of Nigeria (NASHGODAN) and the Africa Women in Animal Resources, Farming and Agribusiness Network, also participated in the programme.

The initiative was designed to support farmers with productive livestock inputs and knowledge to improve their operations and develop sustainable businesses.

The diversity of beneficiaries was highlighted by the participation of 33-year-old Afrahsiyya Idris, a person living with disability, who was among those who received support under the programme.

For the beneficiaries, the next challenge is to effectively convert the animals and other inputs received into productive livestock enterprises through proper feeding, breeding and disease management.

The Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development said it would continue to pursue similar interventions aimed at strengthening livestock production and helping farmers turn government support into sustainable economic activities.

The ministry said the intervention was expected to improve the productivity of participating farmers, increase household earnings and contribute to greater sheep and goat production in the state.
