A prominent community leader, Mr. Adeniyi Adelana, has been abducted by suspected kidnappers following a violent attack on his residence in Ode Oriya Village, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The abduction occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday when six armed men reportedly stormed the community leader’s home under the cover of darkness. Witnesses say the attackers forcefully seized Adelana and dragged him through a nearby bush path to an unknown location.
The attack left his wife injured after she was shot in the right hand while the assailants carried out the operation. She was immediately rescued and rushed to a medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding well.
In response to the incident, the Ondo State Police Command launched an extensive rescue mission aimed at securing Adelana’s safe release and apprehending those behind the crime.
According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B Division, Owo, swiftly deployed a combined team of security personnel to the scene after receiving a distress call. The area was secured, and investigators conducted an initial assessment as part of efforts to track down the kidnappers.
Security operatives have since intensified search operations across nearby forests, bush paths and suspected escape routes. Tactical teams have also been deployed to affected communities and surrounding areas to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State has directed all tactical units, intelligence officers and operational teams to intensify efforts toward rescuing the victim and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Reaffirming its commitment to the safety of residents, the Police Command assured the public that every available resource is being deployed to secure Adelana’s freedom and tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and vigilant while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations. The command also encouraged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency channels.
