Historical epic KING KOSOKO: THE BATTLE FOR LAGOS is closing in on the ₦60 million mark at the Nigerian box office as it prepares for a special Silverbird Reel Talk screening in Lagos on Friday, September 25.

Released nationwide on August 28 and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the film tells the story of Oba Kosoko’s rise to the Lagos throne, his conflict with Akitoye and the British intervention that reshaped the kingdom.

The special Reel Talk event, sponsored by Silverbird Television and Rhythm FM, will take place at Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island.

Unlike a conventional cinema screening, the event will feature a live discussion with members of the film’s creative team and cast after the movie. Lead actor Femi Adebayo, who plays Kosoko, will attend as the special guest.

Guests are expected to arrive from 5:00 p.m., while the screening will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are priced at ₦15,000 and include the movie ticket, cocktails, small chops, popcorn and a drink.

Speaking on the film’s box-office performance, Executive Producer Ayo Ajayi said approaching the ₦60 million milestone was significant, particularly during what he described as a traditionally slow period for cinemas.

Ajayi said the performance demonstrated continued audience interest in ambitious Nigerian stories rooted in the country’s history.

He added that the production team recognised the commercial challenges of producing a historical epic but remained committed to presenting the story of Lagos with authenticity and cinematic ambition.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani, KING KOSOKO: THE BATTLE FOR LAGOS features Femi Adebayo as Kosoko and Odunlade Adekola as Akitoye.

Other members of the cast include Tina Mba, Fathia Balogun, Femi Branch, Gabriel Afolayan, Prince Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Aishat Lawal, Niyi Johnson and Sola Kosoko.

The film explores themes of succession, power, loyalty, resistance and colonial intervention while offering a cinematic interpretation of a defining chapter in Lagos history.

KING KOSOKO: THE BATTLE FOR LAGOS is still showing in selected cinemas across Nigeria.
