The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists during an intelligence-driven operation carried out in Akungba and Iwaro-Akoko communities of the state.
In a statement i by the command , operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) conducted the operation in the early hours of June 16 following credible intelligence on suspected cult-related activities in the area.
The suspects arrested were identified as Damilare Kayode (30), Adejoro Godwin (30), Adedapo Ogunro (36), Chisom Okechukwu (21), Ademulegun Imisi (26), and Odugunle Bukola (21).
Police said preliminary investigations linked the suspects to unlawful confraternities allegedly operating within the Akoko axis.
During a search, operatives reportedly recovered five battle axes, a jackknife, assorted charms, and confraternity items including boots, yellow singlets, and face caps, all of which have been taken into custody as exhibits.
The command disclosed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.
Police authorities also revealed that intelligence gathered during the operation is being analysed to identify other suspected members and dismantle wider criminal networks linked to cult activities in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reiterated the command’s resolve to rid the state of cultism and other violent crimes.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance crime-fighting efforts across Ondo State.
