ABUJA, June 16, 2026 – African Independent Television (AIT) has pledged comprehensive media support, including live coverage of the maiden edition of the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026, in a move expected to boost the visibility and impact of the landmark event.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, who also serves as Chairperson of the WINSEC Central Planning Committee, alongside members of the WINSEC Secretariat, to the management of Daar Communications Plc, owners of AIT, in Abuja.
Welcoming the delegation, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of AIT, Chief Marcel Anyanyechi, commended NAWOJ for initiating a platform dedicated to recognizing the courage, dedication, sacrifice and outstanding contributions of women serving within Nigeria's security architecture.
According to him, the WINSEC Summit and Awards is a timely and commendable initiative that will inspire patriotism, professionalism and greater commitment among security personnel and other stakeholders contributing to national security.
Chief Anyanyechi emphasized that tackling Nigeria's security challenges requires strong collaboration among the media, security agencies, government institutions and citizens, stressing that national security remains a collective responsibility.
On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of AIT, he assured the WINSEC team of the organization's unwavering support toward the successful hosting of the summit and awards ceremony.
As part of its support, AIT pledged to provide live coverage of the awards segment, comprehensive news coverage through its reporting crews, promotional airtime for publicity materials, scroll message announcements to boost awareness, as well as technical support and professional guidance to enhance the quality and reach of event promotions.
"We will work with you, partner with you and collaborate with you to ensure that the ceremony comes out successful. Those who are making sacrifices for the peace and security of our nation deserve to be recognized and honoured," Chief Anyanyechi stated.
Earlier, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the management of AIT for its warm reception and continued support for the initiative.
She described WINSEC as a strategic platform aimed at deepening conversations on security, peacebuilding, gender inclusion, leadership and national development, while also recognizing women and other individuals making significant contributions to Nigeria's security sector.
The maiden edition of the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026 is scheduled to hold on June 30, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The summit, themed "Celebrating Courage, Passion, Loyalty, Commitment and Sacrifice of Women in Securing the Nation," will bring together key stakeholders from the security, media, governance and civil society sectors to discuss national security, gender inclusion and leadership, while honouring outstanding women and other champions contributing to Nigeria's security and development.
